Ark City Branch Begins Conversion to Digital Banking Center

As part of its continued commitment to meeting customers where they are and investing in modern banking convenience, Union State Bank (USB) is preparing to transition its Arkansas City, KS Midtown branch into a new Digital Banking Center. The project follows the successful conversion of the bank’s Winfield, KS 9th Street location and reflects the growing demand for self-service banking technology, expanded digital tools, and around-the-clock account access.
Construction on the Midtown location began in late May focusing primarily on enhancing the drive-thru experience. According to Zack Stoy, Union State Bank’s Market President for Arkansas City, the first phase of the project will include extending the concrete pad into the second drive-thru lane to accommodate a deposit-accepting ATM. “Once that phase is complete, we’ll update the signage and make a few additional enhancements to give the location a more modern, digital feel,” Stoy said. “Throughout the construction process, our Midtown location will remain open and fully staffed, with July 20th currently scheduled as the transition date to our fully Digital Banking Center format.”
One of the most significant upgrades customers will notice is the addition of a second ATM. Customers will continue to have access to the original ATM services throughout the project. However, once installed the new ATM will include deposit-taking capabilities, allowing for faster and more convenient banking access without the need to enter a branch. The enhanced ATM technology will offer 24-hour access for deposits, withdrawals, transfers, and other common banking transactions.
Stoy explained that the transition is a direct response to changing customer preferences and evolving banking habits. “As banking habits continue to evolve, we’ve seen more customers choosing mobile, online banking, and self-service technology for their everyday needs,” he said. “The conversion of Midtown into a fully Digital Banking Center allows us to keep up with those changes while continuing to provide convenience, accessibility and personalized financial services in a more modern and efficient way.”
In addition to expanded self-service capabilities, customers will continue to receive the personalized service that has long defined Union State Bank. “Our Digital Banking Center will give customers the convenience and flexibility to bank in the ways that work best for them,” Stoy added. “With enhanced 24-hour self-service options, expanded digital tools, and continued access to our team at our other two locations for personal assistance and financial guidance, customers can enjoy added convenience while still receiving the hometown service and trusted relationships they’ve come to expect and value.”
Sue Schultz, USB’s Retail Market Coordinator for Arkansas City, emphasized the importance of convenience and efficiency in the project design. “It’s a busy location for the ATM and now we have a deposit-taking ATM,” Schultz said. “It’s easy to get in and out without delay.” She added that the completed Digital Banking Center will provide “convenience and 24/7 service.”
The transition also represents a broader commitment to innovation and customer feedback. “From my perspective as Market President, this transition represents our commitment to growing and adapting alongside the changing needs of our customers and communities,” Stoy said. “Banking technology continues to evolve, and while the way customers access services may look different today than it did 10 years ago, our focus remains the same in providing trusted relationships, local decision making, and the personal service our customers expect from Union State Bank.”
Employees currently working at the Midtown branch will transition to the bank’s other Arkansas City locations, ensuring customers will continue to see familiar faces and receive local support. Schultz believes customers will quickly embrace the changes once they experience the upgraded technology firsthand. “They will love it if they get out and use it once,” she said. “That is all it took for me. It’s quick, easy to use, and efficient. I love it.”
