Union State Bank is proud to announce that Amber Groene, VP Director of Treasury Services, has been named a 2026 Women Who Lead honoree by the Wichita Business Journal. “Women Who Lead” is the publication’s profile series highlighting women working in Wichita-area companies and organizations. The recognition celebrates women who demonstrate leadership, make meaningful contributions to their industries, and positively impact their communities.
Throughout her career, Groene has embraced opportunities to grow as a leader while helping businesses navigate their financial needs. She credits mentors Chris Hemphill and Union State Bank President and CEO Eric Kurtz with shaping her leadership philosophy and reinforcing the importance of authentic leadership, professional growth, and community banking.
Early in her career, Hemphill entrusted Groene with her first leadership role at just 20 years old, helping her develop the confidence and professionalism that continue to guide her today. Kurtz has further influenced her perspective through his vision for community banking and its responsibility to serve as a trusted partner to local businesses and communities.
“What I love most about my job is making a meaningful difference for businesses, my team, and the communities we serve,” Groene said. “Treasury management is about more than products and technology; it is about listening, building trust, and solving real challenges.”
In her role, Groene works with businesses to develop treasury management solutions that help make their financial operations safer, simpler, and more efficient. She values the opportunity to understand each business’s unique needs and build relationships that support its success.
For women pursuing careers in her field, Groene encourages embracing new challenges, seeking out mentors, and finding the confidence to contribute.
“Some of the most rewarding experiences in my career came from stepping outside my comfort zone and saying yes to challenges I wasn’t certain I was ready for,” she said. “Confidence grows through experience, and leadership often begins when someone is willing to take a chance on you, and when you’re willing to take a chance on yourself.”
Groene’s recognition reflects her commitment to professional excellence, meaningful relationships, and the role community banking plays in helping businesses and communities thrive. Union State Bank congratulates Amber on this well-deserved honor and is proud to celebrate her leadership and contributions.
