Introducing Card Controls

Managing your Union State Bank debit card is about to get easier, faster and more convenient. Union State Bank is making final preparations to introduce Card Controls, a new feature directly through USB’s Mobile Banking app and Online Banking that will give customers access to a variety of debit card management and security tools without the need to download or manage a separate app.

“I feel the biggest benefit of Card Controls will be the convenience of having card management features integrated directly within Online and Mobile Banking,” said Jodie Wall, SVP Director of Deposit Operations for Union State Bank. “Customers can manage their debit card whenever and wherever it’s convenient for them.”

That convenience can be especially valuable when something unexpected happens. Card Controls’ transaction alerts provide greater awareness of when and how their debit card is being used. These notifications can help customers quickly identify activity they don’t recognize and block unauthorized transactions.

“Card Controls allows customers to be more connected to their accounts and to get better insight into the types of transactions that are normally hitting their accounts,” said Shawn Wilson, EVP Chief Technology Officer. “In today’s fast-moving financial world, catching abnormal transactions quickly can pay off in a big way by enabling the customer and the bank to take quick action to protect an account.”

For Cyndal Deringer, Digital Banking Services Representative, the ability to immediately control a card is one of the service’s most useful features.

“The biggest benefit of Card Controls for our customers is the ability to instantly turn their card on or off,” Deringer said. “This enhances security and provides peace of mind, especially if the card is misplaced or stolen.”

If a customer temporarily misplaces a debit card, for example, Card Controls will allow the customer to turn the card off immediately. If the card is found, it can be turned back on just as easily. Customers will also have convenient access to options for reporting a lost or stolen card.

But Card Controls isn’t just designed for those worst-case scenarios. It will also bring added convenience to everyday card management by putting many of the tools customers need in one convenient place. Customers will be able to easily add their debit card to a supported digital wallet, access card information, create travel notifications and view enhanced details about their card transactions.

The spending controls feature will provide another level of customization, allowing customers to establish transaction preferences based on factors such as transaction amount, merchant type, transaction type or location.

“I think this is a great tool for our customers on all levels,” said Amy Tretbar, Manager of Card Services. “Card Controls lets customers have control of their cards even if the bank is closed.”

While customers will find Card Controls as a convenient addition to Online and Mobile Banking, bringing a new digital service to customers requires extensive work behind the scenes. Union State Bank employees have spent months evaluating, testing and preparing the service ahead of its rollout.

“When considering a new service like Card Controls, we first determine how it can benefit our customers and improve their banking experience,” Wall said. “From there, we work through the necessary planning, testing and implementation to bring the service to our customers.”

That process has included extensive testing by back-office employees, an employee pilot and final system checks in preparation for launch. Wilson noted that the bank’s evaluation of new technology also includes reviewing security and stability to ensure new services provide a meaningful benefit to customers.

Whether used to help identify unauthorized transactions, better understand spending or simply make everyday card management more convenient, Card Controls will soon give Union State Bank customers greater access to and control over their debit cards.
